Davis cops vs. The Heat June 23, 2006

i was riding my bike home today after work at 4ish. at this time of day, it’s VERY hot. over 100. and my bike is slow lately because i need to put air in the tires (but the pump is in the area where the black widow lives) and my bike probably needs a good tune up as well. HOWEVER i’m scared of the black widow and i have no money for a tune up. so i just ride really slow.

anyway, things were going along. i then got to the corner of pole line and eighth street, and i see two cop cars blocking it off. GREAT. first of all, i don’t like davis cops. they are bored and have nothing better to do than make everyone’s lives miserable. and they block off whole streets for REALLY stupid reasons. i’m sure there was no need to block off the entire street. i mean, what if i lived down that street?!

so i had to go down pole line and then down loyola. this probably isn’t much longer. it’s probably the same. but there’s less shade and it feels longer. and the HEAT was killing me.

so i grumbled at the stupid cops (i thought they were stopped to exchange snacks, because one of them had a bag of chips in his hand, but i later found out they had blocked off the entire street all the way to TULIP and we don’t know why but we speculate a tree fell in the road. it happens.)

then i was drinking water from my water bottle and i lost the cap, so i threw the rest of the water on my head and kept riding. i felt better after the water on my head.

grrrrr davis cops. grrrr heat. i’m not sure which i dislike more.

Graduation, Birthday, Jobs June 21, 2006

well it’s been quite the weekend.

Saturday i finally graduated from college! wooo! no more school for me ever! anyway, the ceremony was really long. just a bunch of names being called. when it was over, the freeborners gathered for some pictures and then we all dispursed. me, parents, brett, and brad went to old town sac and ate lunch at nick’s dad’s place. then we just wandered around. the guys all went to a bar to watch the soccer game, and my mom and i walked around to the stores. we ended up in the candy store and it was awesome. we bought a bunch of candy that brought me back to kid-dom. they had gum cigaretts and ring pops and push pops and big league chew! ahaha. it was awesome. then we went to the mall because it was hot, and hung out in a bookstore for awhile, and then found some tables. we had reservatioins for Il Fornaio (a fancy italian restaurant) at 5:30, so we were waiting around till then. we finally went over there and had some yummy food. they have really good bread. (but my leftovers were gross. i guess they’re just good when its fresh…) then we drove back to davis, and my parents and brett left for tracy.

on sunday BIRTHDAY, brad and i went to santa cruz. my parents were going too with some mock trial kids. so we left around 11am, and got there about 1:30. we just walked right through the amusement park area to the beach, and hung out on the beach all day. it was really nice. the weather was perfect beach weather, and it was nice to get away from the 100 degree weather in davis. we didnt go in the water, but next time i’ll definitely have to. it was also nice to see my parents there. i was really glad that my mom was getting along with brad, and they were joking around and stuff. sometimes my mom doesnt like my friends, and it’s important that she likes my boyfriend. so that made me happy. (my dad likes everyone.. so of course he’d like brad.) anyway, after the beach we went to little ceasars for some $5 pizza and then went back to davis. tons of traffic, but oh well. then the next morning i took brad to the airport so he could fly home.

as for my jobs:
i currently have 2 jobs. sortof. i’m working at freeborn doing the event thing and the setup thing. and for the next two weeks i’ll also be working at the MU business office (MUBO) on various days. (thurs morning, friday, mon, tues, wed) just doing random things. today i worked there for 2 hours, just filing stuff and making copies. i think that’s probably what i’ll be doing thursday also. and maybe some data entry on the computer. whatever. it’s hours and i’m getting the same pay i get upstairs at freeborn so it’s all good.

i also applied at the movie theater today. after i turned in my application, i heard “KATE!” and i looked and saw simon behind the concessions counter. i laughed and went over and told him brianne and i are going to work with him and he looked a little shocked. he just kinda stared at me in a simon way. i cant explain it.

anyway, i’ll hopefully get that job so i can work nights there and days at freeborn. all is well with the world.

my money situation is not looking as bleak as i thought it was going to be. so that’s good. i might actually save enough money to survive in scotland! wooo!

this summer is all about saving the money so i can make it to scotland. and of course hanging out with all my pals.

however, the hanging out will also happen when i get back to california after scotland. living in tracy will surely bore me to death, so i plan on being in davis pretty much every weekend.

THE END.

today i got a gift in the mail from my aunt joan.

there was a card (with a picture van gogh painted on the front) and inside the card she sent me a $30 check for my birthday and a $500 check for graduation! whoa!! also she sent me a bracelet with a bunch of italian coins on it. she said it was made in vicenza (where i was born). it’s pretty cool and it reminds me of this thing i found when i was camping when i was like… 7 or 8. (brett really wanted it so i eventually gave it to him.)

anyways the point of this post is that my aunt gave me $500! this means i only have 1500 more to make for scotland! oh man!

pretty much i have to buy her something really good when i’m there. seriously.

hopefully i can save up my mula and get things rollin.

School’s out! June 15, 2006

i’m finally done with school. it’s a nice feeling, but weird too. i’ve been in school for pretty much as long as i can remember, and now it’s finally done. i don’t really feel a huge sense of accomplishment either. i dunno, i guess it was such a long process and i accomplished many little things that make up the big thing, that i just haven’t seen the whole picture yet.

i think if i can use my degree (and experience) to get a real job, then i’ll feel a sense of accomplishment.

however, real life is going to have to wait! this summer, i’ll be putting around davis, staying at freeborn and hopefully finding something else to save a bit more money. then it’s off to SCOTLAND! which will be scary and exciting and fun. i really want to live in a hostel there, cause i feel like it will be almost dorm-experience. maybe co-op experience, which is great because you make about 20 instant friends.

anyways, that’s it for now. graduating in 2 days….

man, i hate blogs because then i keep posting meaningless stupid things because i am bored. pretty much i’m doing everything in my power to avoid studying right now. i’m kinda thinking, if i don’t know it by now, then i’ll never know it. so whatever.

i went and applied at baskin robbins today. i told the guy i’m moving to scotland in september…. i dont think that was wise, but he asked me what i’m doing after the summer so i need to be honest. plus, he’d have a good employee for the WHOLE summer. come on.

i’ve always had the worst time keeping a diary, but for some reason an on-line diary that other people read (but that i have the option of making private) seems easier to keep.

i have a blog with a few of my friends that i started at the end of my freshman year of college. next sunday will be our 4 year anniversary with that blog. crazy.

i forgot another rule that i live by when blogging:

-i often go on random tangents and make lists.
-sometimes what i say doesnt make sense.

i feel like a copycat but oh well. it’s a good idea, so why not jump on the bandwagon?

things i need to do this week:
- study for my french final
- turn in my art key
- visit the financial aid office and talk about loans
- do the rest of my laundry
- pack stuff i dont need so my parents can take it to their house
- work when i’m scheduled
- find something to wear for graduation
- steam my gown or iron it or something
- figure out WHAT to do with my hair so it looks semi-ok in the stupid graduation cap
- clean my room

things i need to do in general
- buy BUNAC program! yikes!
- buy plane tickets home!!!
- find another job
- go to the dentist
- figure out what to bring to scotland

the end.

Hey, this is my first post on my new blog. It’s just something quick when i really don’t have much to say, so that my page doesnt look naked.

rules i go by:

i don’t capitalize.
i don’t check my grammar.
i use, you know, way too many commas.
i write how i talk (for the most part).

there’s a lot of stuff on this site i don’t get yet. i’ll figure it out later after my finals are over.

oh yeah! reason for making this blog: i’m moving to scotland in september, and i feel a blog is the easiest way to keep in contact with everyone at once and lets everyone see what i’m up to. horray!
